National Merit Semi-Finalist:
A Historic Achievement for CCHS
Colquitt County High School (CCHS) celebrates Class
of 2025 Valedictorian Carter Newman, who has been
recognized as a National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist.
Based on outstanding Preliminary SAT/NMSQT scores,
Newman secured a place among the top one-third of
50,000 high scorers nationwide — the first CCHS student
in recent history to reach the Semi-Finalist level.
Newman's 4.0+ GPA, leadership in the Choral program
and the 50th Regiment Band, and participation in WorkBased Learning exemplify the dedication of CCHS
students. He is currently pursuing his degree at the
University of Georgia.
CCHS Student Selected for Georgia
Governor's Honors Program
CCHS senior Jack Kirksey was selected to participate in the
prestigious 2025 Georgia Governor’s Honors Program
(GHP) for Communicative Arts. Jack emerged from a highly
competitive statewide applicant pool during his junior year,
where over 1,500 students were interviewed and only 600
were selected for the four-week residential program at Georgia
Southern University.
Principal Chris Merritt noted, “Jack is the embodiment
of what it means to be a Packer — driven, respectful, and
committed to excellence. His selection for GHP is a testament
to his hard work and high standards.”
The program is fully funded by the state of Georgia,
providing in-depth academic, cultural, and social enrichment.
"The Governor's Honors Program was life-changing. This experience helped me form connections with
friends and teachers that will last a lifetime. During the four weeks, I was able to explore new facets of my
passions. It was a welcoming and constructive environment that helped me not only develop my talents but
also decide what I want to pursue as I begin college. I would like to thank Colquitt County High School
and its amazing faculty for providing me with this spectacular opportunity." – Jack Kirksey
